Practicing theological reflection and engagement as part of one’s sense of ministerial identity

·     Participated in one unit of CPE through Banner – University Medical Center Phoenix

·     MA in Ministry at United Seminary of the Twin Cities with a minor in inter-religious chaplaincy.

Integrating Theological Reflection in teaching, preaching and ecclesial and community leadership.

·     See sermon examples.

·     Led intergenerational moments on compassion, fruits of the spirit, Advent, Children’s Sabbath, suffering, stillness, trust and hope among other topics.

Articulating a theology and practice of ministry consistent with the UCC Manuel on Ministry

·     See Statement of Faith on the Home Page of this website

Demonstrating an appreciation for and participation in the ecumenical and interfaith partnerships in the United Church of Christ

·     I have participated in the meetings and work of the Tempe Interfaith Fellowship.

Experiencing and appreciating a variety of theological perspectives

·     I minored in interreligious chaplaincy at United Seminary of the Twin Cities. This coursework taught a deep appreciation and a working knowledge of the faith of Sikhs, Buddhists, Jews, Pagans, Wiccans, Hindus, various arms of the Christan faith and other faiths.

·     My work in hospice has helped me connect with a greater number of religious “nones.” Many of these people are hungry for spiritual connection, too, though it might not seem that way on the outset.

Embodying the UCC Ministerial Code

·     I helped Desert Palm youth connect faith and justice through youth group lessons and activity. For example, as a youth group we discussed the haters at PRIDE march and connected it with Jesus standing in solidarity with marginalized groups.

·     I attended the SWC Clergy Retreat, “Rest is Resistance” in October 2023. What I realized is that I don’t rest without feelings of guilt. I’m working on this mindset.

·     Integrated theological reflection, UCC core values and my sense of ministerial identity in recent sermons that touched on: Comforting the afflicted, speaking truth to power over book banning and Jesus' hope that "they may all be one."

·     Three times a month I present Desert Palm's Intergenerational Moment with children. But I feel the stronger connection is when the youth share their hopes and their dreams and I’m able to inspire them along their path. I use humor, visuals and role-playing to meet youth where they’re at.

·     I completed all four units of boundary training in 2024.
